- In Warhammer 40,000, the Umbra are mysterious sphere-like beings who dwell in the void of space. As their name suggests, the Umbra are connected with darkness; they can manipulate shadows to form weapons and nightmarish shapes to combat their foes. They have been observed to avoid direct contact with light. It is believed that the Umbra are the sentient shards of an entity called Qah, who was shattered by Slaanesh and doomed to linger in limbo between the warp and real space. Upon death, an Umbra will psychically scream "LINGER!" in the minds of those nearby. Intense cranial pain and visions (which seem to show Qah's demise) are experienced by those who attempt to examine the remains of an Umbra.
- Umbra poets, a collective of young Black writers, formed in Manhattan's East Side in 1962; publishers of Umbra Magazine
